Federal Skilled Worker Class (FSWC) Present Status: Accepting applications only with arranged employment in Canada or PhD students in Canada (new regulations to come into effect from January 2013) Approximate Processing Time: Minimum 12 months, depending on CIC Visa: Canadian Permanent Resident Visa Selection System: This is a points based system and you need to secure 67 out of 100. Eligibility:

  • A minimum of 1 year of skilled work experience in the preceding 10 years
  • Minimum language threshold in either English or French
Quebec Skilled Worker Program (QSW Program) Present Status: Open Approximate Processing Time: 24 months (varies by country of application) Visa: Canadian Permanent Resident Visa Selection: You have to get a minimum of 49 points to be eligible to submit as a single applicant, where as 57 points to qualify as a couple or family. Eligibility:
  • You must have a degree or diploma in one of the short listed areas by CIC
  • A certain level of French would help and can add up few points
